Jim is a seasoned real estate developer and strategic leader with over 25 years of experience in shaping transformative hospitality, mixed-use, and historic tax credit rehabilitation projects. As President and Founder of Fathom Companies, Jim has spearheaded award-winning developments, including The Press Hotel (Autograph Collection by Marriott) and the Canopy Hotel (Hilton), as well as numerous other impactful projects in New England, and beyond. Known for his expertise in revitalizing historic properties, Jim combines innovation with preservation to create design forward, sustainable, community-focused spaces that leave a lasting legacy.

Jim’s portfolio highlights include the conversion of a historic landmark into an award winning boutique hotel, the repositioning of two Starwood hotels in Venice, Italy, and other ambitious projects blending commercial and residential real estate development. His ability to navigate complex challenges and deliver visionary results has earned him a reputation as a creative and results-driven leader in the real estate industry.

Before embarking on his real estate career, Jim achieved extraordinary success as a world-class sailor, winning an Olympic Silver Medal in 1992, competing in two America’s Cup campaigns and winning five World Championship titles. His accolades include being named Rolex Yachtsman of the Year and US Olympic Committee Athlete of the Year. The discipline, determination, and strategic goal-setting that propelled him to the top of the sailing world continue to shape his approach to life and business.

Jim is deeply committed to giving back to his community. He serves on the Board of Trustees for the University of New England and other nonprofit boards, contributing to the growth and vibrancy of Portland, Maine, where he resides. A mentor to young athletes and entrepreneurs, Jim combines his passion for leadership and service to inspire the next generation.
